摘要
This study investigates the factors influencing digital transformation (DT) adoption in manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Southeast United States and examines its impact on firm performance. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a quantitative survey of 215 SME owners/managers and qualitative semi-structured interviews with 15 industry leaders. The results identify three primary drivers of DT adoption: cost reduction pressure (68% of respondents), customer demand for digital services (72%), and competitive benchmarking (59%). Key barriers include limited financial resources (81%), shortage of digital talent (76%), and inadequate technological infrastructure (65%). Regression analysis reveals a positive correlation between DT maturity and firm performance, with adopted firms achieving 18.3% higher annual sales growth and 12.5% improved operational efficiency compared to non-adopters. The study provides practical implications for SME managers to prioritize DT investments and for policymakers to develop targeted support programs.
